Biden Or McChrystal?
Filed Under American Politics | Leave a Comment
Who’s advise should Obama take on Afghanistan. As has been recorded, General McChrystal, the Commander in charge in Afghanistan has stated that without the addition of 40,000 new troops, the allied cause there will be lost. On the other hand, Vice-President Joe Biden is apparently gaining traction with his plan, originally rejected by Obama in March to:
scale back American forces and focus more on rooting out Al Qaeda there and in Pakistan,
Leaving side Joe Biden’s rather unfortunate habit of picking the ‘wrong’ option on foreign policy, does his plan make more sense than McChrystals? A plan supported by General Petreaus. I suspect that if it was as easy as picking off Al-Qaeda one-by-one without the compensating factor of engaging them on the ground, that would have already been tried. Personally, I would err on the side of those who are the experts, the military men.
The Weekly Standard makes a stark contrast between the bona-fides of the two opposing factions:
Barack Obama……can’t possibly imagine that the generals who brought security and stability to Iraq are wrong while the politicians who would have abandoned Iraq at the height of the violence there — and who insisted that the surge could never work — are right about military strategy in Afghanistan.
Perhaps Obama’s equivocation is a political sop to the left, a glance in their direction to keep them happy before he listens to the experts. But this appears to be digital decision for him; either pull the troops out and interdict only from the air, or send in the cavalry. If the current situation is a losing one, then no purpose is served by maintaining the status quo.

Just days after Barack Obama landed himself in hot water with the Policing community over his comments about Sergeant Crowley “acting stupidly” (glass houses Mr President), the police are suddenly getting a big pay off courtesy of the Obama administration (Via The Fix):
Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder will announce $1 billion in economic stimulus funds dedicated to the hiring and re-hiring of of police officers today in Philadelphia, according to an Administration source. The money will be parceled out via grants in all 50 states and will lead to the hiring of nearly 4,700 officers for three years.
What a coincidence!

That is how Matthew Yglesias of ThinkProgress describes Joe Biden
Within the last week, Joe Biden has:
Given Israel the green light to bomb Iran which the administration had to rebuff a day later
Declared victory in Iraq
Gave a green light to terrorists in Iraq by stating that America would leave if sectarian attacks re-ignited
And admitted that he and his administration “misread how bad the economy was”
And all that within a week. Thankyou Yglesis for recognising this man’s genius. Thankyou Barack Obama for putting this man in charge of the stimulus and Iraq.

Joe Biden In 2016

Not too much to worry about though, he is a serial primary loser. However, I’m sure if he does win the 2016 primary, as he will be 74, two years older than John McCain in 2009, the Democrats won’t object to videos like this one being run against him:
And they won’t object to the GOP setting up websites like www.thingsyoungerthanjohnmccain.com
And they won’t object to a Republican senator questioning his age like strong Obama supporter Claire McCaskill did:
Last month, Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat and a supporter of Democratic candidate Sen. Barack Obama, said McCain’s age and skin cancer history were fair game as a campaign issue. “We’re talking about a reality here that we have to face.”
And we won’t see any objections to a conservative equivalent of moveon.org publicising a video which says:
And if skin cancer doesn’t get him (McCain), consider the risks of aging, Craft says: “The list of diseases that just get more common with age – Alzheimer’s cardiovascular disease, stroke, arthritis – he has a lot of them. I’d like to know what tests are being done to see if he has any others.”
And we certainly won’t be panicked into thinking that a VP candidate is only a heartbeat away from the Presidency will we.
We won’t see any of those things from the left because when prejudiced against age, it’s only right to be consistent in your prejudices.
NB. That is a funny video mind.

Thank God For Joe Biden!

I love Joe Biden, only because when I’m criticised by an Obama supporter for cheering on Sarah Palin, I can say: “well you supported Joe Biden”.
Asked by Jonathan Riskind of the Columbus Dispatch to explain how the White House determined these numbers (the White House saving or creating jobs), Biden said that the Council of Economic Advisers makes its estimates based on measuring what the U.S. employment level would have been without the stimulus, and then comparing it to the nation’s actual employment level. “I’m sorry I’m not an economist,” Biden said as he was describing the methodology.
Well thank goodness that the Democrats put someone a heartbeat away from the Presidency and in charge of the stimulus roll-out who doesn’t know his economics from his elbow.

Here’s a question for you. Who said the following?
I believe so strongly, as you may recall when I was here in October, not in you particularly but your generation, that I don’t have a single doubt in my mind we’re on the cusp not only of a new century but a new day for this country and the world.
There’s not a single issue on this President’s plate that will not yield a change — just merely by ignoring it, it will change.
Folks, we’re either going to fundamentally change the course of history, or fail the generations that come after us, because change will occur. Non-action is action, unlike most generations.
This has been the history of the journey of America — never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, never have the American people let their country down at rare moments, similar moments in our history. And it’s a journey we’re all going to take together.
A bunch of rhetorical gibberish which should be deservedly ridiculed. So is it Sarah Palin? George W Bush? Donald Rumsfeld? Dan Quayle? All ridiculed by the left for the way they speak. Or is it someone else?
Answer after the jump.
