Just thought I’d share some facts about this site taken from Google Analytics for a change of pace.

  • In the month of august, I have received at least one visit from every state in the union save Vermont, Maine and disappointingly Alaska (I feel so scorned).
  • The spam is interesting. Apparently I’m in line to get 30% of the 24 million deposited by a person working at the Chilean Embassy. That’ll help pay a few bills.
  • Since this blog started, there have been 2,831 unique visitors. If only some of them would leave comments (apart from you guys obviously)
  • Referring websites. The Spectator has sent over 1,500 visits, National Review 405 (all in one day) and the Daily Kos 24 (thanks Israel, hi Morgan). Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get more links?
  • The average time spent on this site is 10 minutes
  • This surprised me. The most viewed post is Shatner Does Palin
  • The most commented on post seems to be I Find Myself Frustrated Today with 126 comments
  • It can get a bit depressing looking at this data and seeing all the people who visited the blog but then left straight away. For example, I wrote a post about Cap and Trade. 49 people found it through Google. 48 of them left without looking at anything else.
  • The two most common search terms used to find this site excluding anything with “cabbie” in it are “branches of life to form a non-unique life-set” and “bash, burn and bugger off” ???????

Anyone have any thoughts on getting more visitors?

    From an personal perspective…

First, continue being the individual you are, conservative but willing to engage with others.

An engagement with different viewpoints (even though we know that there will be those extremes on both sides that aren’t interested in reason) is a very attractive draw.

Second..eventually you may look at changing your format so that there is threading (I’m using my terms, I’m so not a programmer).

But all in all Cabbie..its a good start..though I’m not sure how long you’ve been doing this :)

If my impression stays positive I would probably recommend you to others here in the U.K., though most of them are disgustingly conservative. lol

    Morgan

Thankyou. Can you explain what you mean by threading?

though most of them are disgustingly conservative. lol

Are you sure about that? I didn’t think there were many of us left here in the UK.

Oh, and I started in early May.

The regulars we have are great, I’d rather have you lot than a whole bunch of will o’ the wisp visitors. Unfortunately, we all know what each other thinks and the arguments do tend to be a bit circular. A bit of variety might spice things up.

    A thread is a topic.

Morgan…conservatives are disgusting are they? By what measurement do you judge us?

    C. Cabbie,
I think it is going well…don’t you.

I would like to see a few more Americans blogging on. And we do seem to have mostly liberals, which is weird….And what happened to my man, straydingo…I really enjoy his take on events. He popped up and was gone.

I’ve told several friends and family about your site, they check in but perhaps are afraid to join the fray…

I had a busy day but when I checked in today…things were rough…I could visualize you with sword in hand fighting off some four swordsmen/woman all at the same time…but you did yourself proud.

    An American

    Thankyou

I’d say actually that we’re well balanced:

    Left
    Israel
    Morgan
    THX
    Ronnie
    Hayward

    Right
    You
    Me
    Liberty
    Tony
    shockwaver

That’s five a piece. It’s late and I’m tired, have I forgotten anyone?

    Americans
    You
    shockwaver
    Liberty
    Morgan

    Non-Americans
    Me
    Tony
    Israel
    THX
    Ronnie
    Hayward

    that’s 4-6, still nicely balanced.

More americans would be great, what worries me, is that if I get a link from a site that sends a few more, they are either likely to be all rightists from a conservative site or all leftists from a left-leaning site. That would upset the balance, something I like. I think organic growth is best, I just wish it was a bit quicker. Since we started, we’ve only really added two newbies from the original group, namely liberty and morgan.

Yes, it’s been a long day for me too. Sleep well.

off topic; are these your progenitors? do you like hazelnuts?
“The remains of a 9,000-year-old hunter-gatherers’ house, uncovered during construction at an airport, have been unearthed in Great Britain’s Isle of Man. The house was surrounded by buried mounds of burnt hazelnut shells and stocked with stone tools, according to archaeologists working on the project and a report in the latest British Archaeology”

    shockwaver

That airport was right next to my school

There’s also a castle there, Peel Castle, which was once the biggest archaeological project in Europe. Full of history.

    Original Tony:

What I’m thinking of as “threading”, and as I said I’m certainly no programmer, is where when you respond to an individual it appears under their comment.

As for the “disgustingly conservative”..note the lol. It was meant in a light-hearted way.

  10. Conservative Cabbie on August 12th, 2009 9:31 am

    Morgan

Thaks for clarifying threading. I’ve seen it on other sites, and personally I’m not a big fan, I’m not even sure it’s possible but suspect it is. If others want it, I’d be happy to look into it. anyone with thoughts about threading?

  11. Original Tony on August 12th, 2009 11:56 am

sew, a needle pulling thread…doh, a note that follows sew and that will bring us back to doh, ray, me far so la tee doh…dont bother Cabbie…we can all follow what’s being said

  12. Ronnie on August 12th, 2009 1:14 pm

    Hmmmm, threading.

I suspect it might create lots one-on-ones and upset the rythmn of the general discussion, but I’m very conservative in these matters.

  13. Original Tony on August 12th, 2009 9:38 pm

    Ronnie conservative…biggest Lol yet! :)
