A couple of interesting revelations about the Democratic healthcare plan in Congress.

1.   Our foreign friends may not be aware of the fiscal dishonesty of our current Prime Minister Gordon Brown. His budgets often claim new spending which is later revealed to be old spending reclaimed. Well it seems that Barack Obama and his party are indulging in the same fiscal contortions within the new healthcare bill in Congress:

A senior administration official says billions of dollars to raise fees for doctors treating Medicare patients are not covered by President Barack Obama’s pledge to pay for health care legislation……

….The Congressional Budget Office said last Friday the higher payments cost $245 billion over 10 years. It said including the money in the overall bill would result in deficits totaling $239 billion.

So the Obama administration neglected to include the cost of increased fees to Medicare doctors whilst claiming that the health plan would be deficit neutral. However, when the increased cost of the fees are included ($245 billion), suddenly the plan increases the deficit by $239 billion. Is it just coincidence that those numbers match up so closely? Somehow I don’t think so which makes me wonder at the motive for leaving out the increased fees. Fiscal contortionism at it’s finest. Or is it just plain lying?

2. Kudos to Allan Favish at American Thinker, he seems to have read through the whole of the healthcare bill. His findings are worrying for those of us who believe that everyone is equal:

On page 879-880, the bill states that the Secretary of Health and Human Services

“shall make grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities . . . to operate a professional training program in the field of family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, or geriatrics, to provide financial assistance and traineeships and fellowships to those students, interns, residents or physicians who plan to work in or teach in the field of family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, or geriatrics.”

On page 881-882 the bill states:

“In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds.”

In other words, the government will give preferential treatment to parties who are going out of their way to train minorities. I have no problem with minorities getting training to be a medical practitioner, my problem is with government giving preferential treatment to anyone involved in the training of doctors and the like. If I’m ill, all I want to be assured of is that the person treating me is the best in the business, not that they are filling a quota or that they have been trained solely because they would have got the trainer preferential access to funding. This isn’t just about minorities, the bill does refer to people from disadvantaged backgrounds too. The Democrats just can’t leave their social re-modelling out of anything. This bill should be about what is best for the American people, not about pandering to protected classes.

    C. Cabbie,

This bill should be used as toilet paper.

THX says Obama is not a racist! Well, this Bill says he is. See what I mean? SUBTLE.

If any racial group is preferred over another in this modern day, it is racist in my opinion.
