Open Post (Non Healthcare).
Senator Boxer gets uppity with a General for calling her Ma’am.
Is she too stupid to realise that the military use Sir and Ma’am as a matter of course. Why does she feel the need to be so defensive about her role as Senator. Have a guess which party this prima donna represents.
Some other topics you might want to discuss:
Obama fires two IG’s, despite being the co-sponsor of the bill which prevents Presidents from doing exactly that.
ABC are running a healthcare infommercial for the President from the White House. They are also banning adverts from political groups opposed to Obama’s reform and not allowing alternate views. Can we on the right now say that the media are in the tank for Obama? Should ABC be called the Advertising Barack Channel?
I’ve seen a number of news outlets including Sky and the WSJ refer to Obama as Mr. This surprises me, if one is going to use a title, why not use President? Is there something I’m missing.
Anyways, goodnight and speak to you all later. Thanks for keeping things going in my absence.

I know this is an open post that excludes healthcare but did anyone read my post about how healthcare is done where I come from, Zimbabwe. Go back and read if you didn’t, I would welcome some comments on it. Would it work in USA?
I am seriously worried about the growing dictatorial powers of Mr. Obama (sic). Aren’t there laws to stop a President from banning opposing views in the media? This smacks of communism.
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY!!!
We have just had an EIGHT YEAR bloody infomercial on FOX for the republicans and even now it continues and you complain about ABC on one night?
When l get home l will post a link showing all the specials and exclusive interviews done by GHannity, Cavuto, O’Reilly, Bier et al, ALL FROM INSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE.
God you republican supporters aren’t even trying anymore.
Yes…but did the Bushs’ try and prevent criticism of their policies like Obama is doing, that’s the crux of the matter.
ARE YOU INSANE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Did you not follow the republican strategy between 2002 and 2005?
If you think they didn’t try to stifle opposition you must have a head either as empty as a void or packed full of rocks.
The entire premise was to not only stifle but to demonize. I can’t believe l have to waste energy typing this. how the hell do you think they took power in 2002 after th worst tyerrorist stike in US history happened under a republican president?

A couple of great Colbert quotes on Fox News
“(on fox news)…. it’s like watching a Disney movie about the news.”
and my favorite Fox Quote from the White House Correspondents Dinner
“I am appalled to be surrounded by the liberal media that is destroying America, with the exception of Fox News. Fox News gives you both sides of every story: the president’s side, and the vice president’s side.”
Your cheating heart is gonna tell on you!
Ensign was a Promise Keeper another GOP Culture Warrior turns about to be a lying hypocrite….Oh that’s so funny it’s like shooting fish in a barrel and we all know who’s next the ever so in closet Charlie Crist.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=7857788
Sorry Hank!
THX,
Don’t be so happy…the Republicans will throw Ensign over…he’s already lost his power base…Unlike Senators like Barney Frank who had a boy’s prostitution ring going on in his basement…that was just fine with the Liberals in Congress…they just rewarded the pervert.
Yes…Barbara Boxer is that stupid…to know anything actually. I would bet if we knew the real IQ of people in the Congress, Boxer would come in somewhere near the bottom along with Maxine Waters…together, these two couldn’t register 100 on the IQ scales.
And unmitigated arrogance…what has Boxer ever done that was a positive for this country?
THX 1138,
Sen. Ensign will be now be out on that “Lost Highway”
Thanks to Hank & Leon Payne
C’mon An American let me enjoy the moment.
Hayward we could all have lots of fun with this.
I think Ensign’s reply would be
“Mind your own Business” he probably got her into bed with the line “Hey Good Lookin”
THX
Are you saying Crist, the Florida Governor is gay?…that’s new one. He just married a young sweet thing.
An American
But do not foreget that Sen. Ensign was a Promise Keeper but as in Matthew 23:27 has proved to be yet another GOP whited sepulchre.
Ronnie, THX
Sen Ensign after Window Shopping had Fly Trouble but was obviously hoping that No One Will Ever Know that he was Fool About You. For now There`s A Tear In My Beer so Never Again (Will I Knock On Your Door) for if I do may I go Straight To Hell .
Hank certainly knew of the trial and tribulations of life.
An American I thought everyone new Crist was gay but you wouldn’t know that from his anti gay rhetoric.
Did I really write new – Doh
THX,
We lived in Boulder overlooking Lake Meade right outside of Las Vegas for two years back about 12 years ago.
Every weekend, it was a new restaurant and show…it was fun while it lasted.
I’m sure you have tickets to see the Beatles ‘Love’ Cirque de Soleil show…can’t wait to see it myself. Our grandson loved it. Too bad that Danny Ganz passed away recently…his show was one of our favorites.
We were there a couple of years ago and found The Parisian, although old… had a good buffet…great mussels in garlic and wine.
Your drive should let you see some nice northern Arizona pine forests and Nevada desert….
THX
Do you mean the Govenor of Florida Crist?
I knew he was liberal for a Republican but I’ve never heard that rumor.
Israel,
I certainly hope FOX is conservative…as it is, there is no balance when you have ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN and PBS which all on the other side of the seesaw and in Obama’s pocket.
What did Calf. newspaper editor Bernstein say…”the media and Obama should just get a room.”..its all kind of perverted.
An American
I’ve got tickets for “O” – Don’t you just love Vegas I go pretty much every year, you can get a direct flight from London, it floats my inner libertarian boat.
As for Crist just goolge Crist Gay millions of links

Okay the Gawker might be a bit partisan but you get the idea.
I’m off to bed goodnight everyone.
Oh Go on one more post
While I’m on libertarians why I love Ron Paul so much:
His speech from that stupid vote in Congress today- Haven’t they better thinks to be doing than ridiculous posturing on Iran?
“I rise in reluctant opposition to H Res 560, which condemns the Iranian government for its recent actions during the unrest in that country. While I never condone violence, much less the violence that governments are only too willing to mete out to their own citizens, I am always very cautious about “condemning” the actions of governments overseas. As an elected member of the United States House of Representatives, I have always questioned our constitutional authority to sit in judgment of the actions of foreign governments of which we are not representatives. I have always hesitated when my colleagues rush to pronounce final judgment on events thousands of miles away about which we know very little. And we know very little beyond limited press reports about what is happening in Iran.
Of course I do not support attempts by foreign governments to suppress the democratic aspirations of their people, but when is the last time we condemned Saudi Arabia or Egypt or the many other countries where unlike in Iran there is no opportunity to exercise any substantial vote on political leadership? It seems our criticism is selective and applied when there are political points to be made. I have admired President Obama’s cautious approach to the situation in Iran and I would have preferred that we in the House had acted similarly.
I adhere to the foreign policy of our Founders, who advised that we not interfere in the internal affairs of countries overseas. I believe that is the best policy for the United States, for our national security and for our prosperity. I urge my colleagues to reject this and all similar meddling resolutions.”
Amen to that.
THX 1138,
Brother, let me add my Amen
Now if as a candidate for POTUS Ron Paul were to make that part of his platform and promise to stick to it and keep that promise, were I a citizen of the USA I would very likely vote for him. Just think of all the money that the US could have saved in not going on all those earlier foreign military adventures.
They might be able to get the budget back into surplus and cut into the national debt.
THX / Hayward
405 congress men and women vote to condemn Iran’s suppression of the protestors and yet you two side with the John Bircher and regular Glenn Beck guest. What a srange, strange world.
Mr Cabbie,
Yes I know of the John Birch connection and appearing on Glenn Beck.
I said would very likely, not definitely.
And was it not Jefferson among others who advocated that
the new republic stay out of the internal affairs of other countries.
Mind you Jefferson would also definitely not allow what recent Administrations of both parties have been doing. He would not place military bases in over 150 countries, he would not allow the government pass draconian measures, such as the Un-American Patriot Act and the Real ID Act, into law. He would not break the law by issuing signing statements to subvert the rule of law. He would probably have sought the impeachment of Bush and Cheney.
Cabbie
You’re right It’s a funny old World & Ron Paul also makes a guest appearance in the Saacha Baron Cohen Movie Bruno. Something tells me he won’t be quite so happy about that though!

I’m a big fan of Jefferson but let’s not get carried away with his isolationist ideals. He went to war with the arabs, bought a bloody big country, agitated with France for their help in the Revolution and was a slaveholder.
Somehow I doubt Jefferson would have sought Bush’s impeachment, he’d more likely seek Obama’s. Jefferson would be a modern day conservative.
I’ve quoted this before, but I shall repeat it because it’s my favourite ever political quote by JFK:
THX
Have you seen the latest polling from Gallup? Obama’s support amongst independents is down 7% to only 53%. Interesting

Will try and post later I’m going for a run and It’s my daughters 9th birthday it’s going to be chaos
Mr Cabbie,
By the Arabs you mean the Barbary Pirates?
That war was started by the Pasha of Tripoli on
Jefferson refusing to pay tribute. In May 1801, the Pasha declared war on the United States, by cutting down down the flagstaff in front of the U.S. Consulate in Tripoli.
La Vente de la Louisiane?
Well it had two benefits for both the new Republic and a new Empire that of Napoleon.
For the Republic it was the acquisition of what now amounts to 23% of the area of the USA today plus it relieved the new Republic of debt that was overhanging from the War of Independence.
For the new Empire, it cleared the books of that debt also adding a significant amount to the Imperial coffers, necessary for Napoleons grand plans for the spread of the Empire. The other was as Napoleon hopefully expressed. “This accession of territory affirms forever the power of the United States, and I have given England a maritime rival who sooner or later will humble her pride.”
Yes he did seek French assistance in the struggle for Independence. And as so many US citizens are either unaware or prefer to forget, without that assistance, financial, military in both personnel and materiel not to forget naval their would have been no Independence.
Slaveholder, as were most of the Founding Fathers, at least those from Virginia. But he did acknowledge that there was something amiss with that form of servitude.
I may address that in the Democracy blog.
Mr Cabbie,
As for the impeachment of TFT and 5DD, it would be make for an interesting Geoffrey Robertson’s Hypotheticals Programme.
I personally think that Mr Jefferson would be apalled at the way the Bush Cabal rode roughshod over both the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Thomas Jefferson was conservative but not a Neocon!
Hayward
I’ll grant you that Jefferson wasn’t a neocon. Interesting that the founder of what was to become the Democratic party was such an advocate of states rights. Interesting how things have changed.
Now Alexander Hamilton – he’d have been a neocon.
Mr Cabbie,
Oh yes, Mr Hamilton may have been a Neocon. But not a Chickenhawk. He at least put his body on the line in the Revolution.
Alexander Hamiton in fact gives a good example of what some call the beloved “free market” and I prefer to call “Predator Capitalism”
It starts when the ex Colonies became the United States of America after the success of the Revolution. It comes down to a statement by Alexander Hamilton along the lines that as much capital as possible should be in the hands of the few rather than spread among the many .
How did this come to be?
Alexander Hamilton as the first Secretary of the Treasury had suggested that the new Republic’s government should reimburse the securities it owed to those who fought in the Revolutionary War at their full price.
When speculators heard of this, they bought the securities from the fighters in the Revolution at a fraction of their cost, knowing that they would make a motza. There was much opposition to this. Many in the newly established Congress, including Madison, wanting a fairer reimbursement for those who had actually done the fighting.
But there was some wheeling and dealing carried out on this and other matters which were to have long term consequences for the new Republic. Two of the most important were to do with slave holding and the siting of the capital of the Republic in a swamp on the banks of the Potomac, rather than in Philadelphia.
So the many people and their families who fought and died for the Revolution were short changed for the benefit of the rich few.
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose!
C. Cabbie and Hayward,
Thought you would like to know that my great, great grandfather Milligan was a cobbler from Ireland who served in General Washington’s army…he later settled in Virginia to farm.
Some of my husband’s family were English on his mother’s side who were early settlers and Irish on his father’s side.
Hayward,
Thanks for the history lesson…don’t know if I agree with all your conclusions. But, it seems politicians never change.
I think that Jefferson would be turning over in his grave to see what Obama is doing to his and other’s Constitution.
An American:
Jefferson would have been spinning in his grave at the passing of the Patriot Act and the removal of Habeus Corpus for Us citizens by the Bush administration.
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. ”
Hmmmm………..
Seems like he would be joined by Ben Franklin too!!!
Colon, minus symbol, close brackets.
Israel,
Forget about Bush for just one moment…if you are capable of that.
Obama is undermining our Constitution by pushing socialistic Fascism upon America. He and his far-left cronies are trying to destroy Capitalism which made America the wealthiest and strongest country in the world and Americans the most financially blessed in the world. America’s so-called ‘poor’s’ life-style compares to middle class elsewhere in the world. These are people who pay $200 for their kids tennis shoes because they are the in thing…
Europeans and the British’s lifestyle is not as prosperous as American’s lifestyle (home, cars, etc.) even though they have the same comparable education and career. I know, I’ve been there to compare.
Jefferson and our founding fathers did not create America to be run by bureaucrats…they wanted America to be a free country unlike Britain who over-taxed and over-controlled its citizens…why do you think we had a revolution to free us from Britain in the first place? Do you think our founding fathers wanted someone like Obama to return us to the socialistic British way of life …No way!
Israel,
I would think that you along with some of the other intelligent Brits here, of all people, would see the gigantic problems that socialism has brought to the UK and Europe.
Or is it that you want the US to join Britain and Europe in their gradual decline toward complete and utter collapse…
An American.
“Forget about Bush for just one moment..”
You will never admit it was the GOP in power for 12 years in Congress and the Bush Cabal in the White House for 8 that created most of the financial/fiscal problems that brought about the mess which started in the the US and have now spread to the rest of the world, rest of the world.
As far as I can see Obama is trying to save Capitalism. Look at all the money the US government used to prop up banks both merchant and trading, those Wall Street entities, insurance companies in particular AIG, the automobile sector, backing of mortgages etc.
If none of that had happened then Capitalism in the US would have collapsed. It would in fact have eaten itself a state brought about by the greed of the rich few at the expense of the many.
As for the Revolution, well yes the Navigation Acts were one reason, but are you aware that Jefferson,Washington
and other Burgess of the Virginian elite were land speculators. Not land they had bough or had title to in any legal sense.
So whose land?
Native American land, lands that were in and across the Appalachians. For which the British Government of the day had forbidden any exploitation or settlement due to the fact that it reached some sort of peace settlement with the Nations that lived there. The British did not want to have another Indian War on its hands.
Another reason was the fact that the Burgess of Virginia were concerned about an actual rebellion in their own lower classes; the small tobacco farmers, the traders/small business owners and workers not to forget the 40% of the population that were slaves.
An American:
“Forget about Bush for just one moment..”
Well to steal a quote from my all time favourite US comedian Bill Hicks when people would snark at him for mentioning the Kennedy assassination:
“I will if you stop mentioning Jesus. I mean, if we are talking about shelf life here…..”
But to be serious for a moment why don’t you take a look back and think of all the times between 2001 and 2008 you and others on the right envoked the names of Clinton and Carter, expecially Carter when talking about poor presidents in defence of Bush. There has only been a new president since November and Bush’s policies still have an effect and are still being dealt with NOW.
Thatcher hasn’t been PM in the UK since the nineties. Do you think that l and other minorites have easily forgotten the draconian law enforcement policies, the lack of regard when their was a minority victim of crime, or her views on the Apartheid regime in South Africa?
Do you think that people in Iran don’t remember the removal of Mohammad Mosaddeq and the 1953 Coup in Iran and the installation of the Shah and the training of SAVAK by the US?
Hell no!!!
Forget him?!?!?!?!?
The man is still a blight on the land, your crush on him not withstanding. From all your previous posts about him (his supposed “goodness of heart”, “humility”, “greatness of character” and ability to talk to the animals a la Rex Harrington) l would not be surprised if your home actually contained a small shrine to number 42.
An American:
“Obama is undermining our Constitution by pushing socialistic Fascism upon America.”
You see, just when l get a bit more repect for your point of view you manage to drain a little more out of the pool.
Socialistic Fascism?!?!!?!?!?
What is it with you right wing americans? Do you think that all the people in the US switch over from Fox Tv to Fox News and nothing else? Are crappy buzz words and imciting or promoting extremists all you have to offer these days?
We know it’s not a comprehensive health policy:
http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2009/06/17/gop-working-pla/
By thw way, do you REALLY think referencing The Simpsons is the way you republicans should go? I know that things aren’t going great with Twitter at the moment, but still:
http://www.megavideo.com/?v=E2CDL0P1
Hayward,
I can talk until I am blue in the face and you will not face up to the fact that Bush tried on many occasions to stop the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fiasco and the ruling Democratic Congress at that time, namely Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Maxine Waters along with the Black Caucus stopped it everytime. They were getting millions in kickback campaign money. And these very same crooks are still calling the shots…Amazing.
This is one of the main reasons we are now in financial trouble…and it doesn’t help that Obama has expanded the historical debt by six times in just five months…God, man, where is your common sense.
So you believe that Obama is trying to save Capitalism? That is perhaps the most outrageous remark you’ve made so far. And you’ve made quite a few…I really don’t think you even know what Capitalism is all about.
Capitalism means production and distribution are owned by individual private ownership. Free enterprise leads to more efficiency, lower prices, better products and rising prosperity…Socialism is just the opposite. It advocates the ownership and control of production and industry by the government for the people. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT OBAMA IS DOING. He is forcing private ownership out of the banks, auto and insurance industry…and putting the government in control…he says for the good of the people but it’s really about him believing he is omnipotent. If we could broadcast what is in this guy’s head…people would be shocked all to hell.
It will take years to prove to people like you…if ever… that Obama is a Fascist and a Muslim sympathizer if not a committed one…Let’s hope we can stop him and his crazy cronies before he/they manage to do too much more damage.
And now…we get into slavery. I think you should worry about your own natives…I saw some pretty sad incidents when we were there, especially in the Ayers Rock area…the guide didn’t have anything good to say about the your government’s treatment when it came to it’s native people…you are way behind us…our native indian population is many times what it ever was before the white man arrived, they still own large amounts of land and…they are cleaning up in their casinos as the stupid among us give them their cake that they can eat too. What they are doing is immoral but they will have to answer for their greed when the time comes for them to meet their maker.
Israel,
Hey…if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…its a duck.
Israel,
You’ve been infected by the ‘Bush Hate Syndrome’…the far-left media pounded those drums for 8 long years…yep…you’re infected.
Take ten laxatives…and pray for it to ‘all’ go away…just kidding! (my computer program will not give me a smiley face)
Conservative Cabbie and all…
Do you have access to Micheal Ramirez’s political cartoons? Check him out if you have a chance. He’s a genius.
Our local political cartoonist John Trever is a good friend. These fellows have extremely bright, fertile minds.
An American:
“Hey…if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…its a duck.”
See? Now you get it!!!
No matter how hard you try to rewrite what has happened (and your obvious love for the man will make you try) the fact is that even with the large scale assault by those on the media tour Bush will still go down as
The.
Worst.
President.
EVER.
BTW, ‘Bush Hate Syndrome’? What, like the “Clinton Hate Syndrome” YOU show? Just like the “Kool Aid Drinkers” that O’Reilly and others on the right have tried to co-opt as their own this is a left wing phrase about right wingers. If you guys really had any better ones you would use them, but then you all think “Drill Baby, Drill” is a keeper.
An America,
Now for a brief discourse/discursion on what in fact brought about the Wall Street Tsunami and released an ocean of toxic debt, irst in the US, then sent it swirling around the globe.
“People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.”
Adam Smith, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations: Bk.I, Ch.10.
Which is what more or less happened in the case of a certain five firms who went to the SEC and asked to legally violate existing net capital rules that, in the past 30 years, had limited broker dealers debt-to-net capital ratio to 12-to-1. Instead, the 2004 exemption, only given to these five firms, allowed them to leverage up to 30 and even 40 to 1. Not exactly about prices, but still something that has cost the US taxpayer dear and also those in the rest of the world.
Who were the five that received this special exemption?
Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. The main protagonist in this push was was Hank Paulson of Goldman Sachs. And the result? Three of the five broker dealers have gone to the wall!
Who was the SEC boss who allowed this to happen ?
William Henry Donaldson appointed by The Faux Texan in February 2003. interestingly another Skull and Bones Man!
An allegation made by Lee Pickard, a former SEC official, is that the SEC at that time was really responsible for the Wall Street Tsunami. He says that the rule change in 2004 led to the failure of Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch.
“The SEC allowed five firms, the three that have collapsed plus Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley , to more than double the leverage they were allowed to keep on their balance sheets, and remove discounts that had been applied to the assets they had been required to keep to protect them from defaults.”
Making matters worse, according to Pickard, who helped write the original rule in 1975 as director of the SEC’s trading and markets division, was a move by the SEC to further erode the restraints on surviving broker dealers by withdrawing requirements that they maintain a certain level of rating from the ratings agencies.
(Now the ratings and insurance shenanigans in this whole greedy and sorry affair are another entire story of greed and incompetence)
In that 2004 rulemaking, the Commission under Donaldson decided to rely on the firms’ own computer models for determining the riskiness of investments, in essence outsourcing the job of monitoring risk to the banks themselves. Donaldson and the other Commissioners who voted for the rule change were aware of the risks at the time, as indicated by the comment at that 28 April 2004 meeting “If anything goes wrong,” said Commissioner Harvey Goldschmid. who had supported Donaldson in voting for the proposal, “it’s going to be an awfully big mess.” How right he was!
A report by the SEC Office of the Inspector General after the near-failure of Bear Stearns stated that the standards the Commission adopted under Donaldson in 2004 were inadequate to warn of the firm’s impending crisis. For as Pickard has also said “They constructed a mechanism that simply didn’t work,” Pickard said. “The proof is in the pudding — three of the five broker dealers have blown up.”
So what about Moral Hazard, something else that Adam Smith also addressed in An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations?
This was nothing with which any of the former Masters of the Universe aka The Big Swinging Dicks were concerned. They knew deep down that there was none! They knew that any Administration whether Democrat or Republican would step in and save their sorry arses! Just look at the two previous Financial Fiascos both fine examples of Predator Capitalism, S&L and LTCM.
“ Privatis(z)e the Profits, Socialis(z)e the Losses”
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. or in the words of another great Scot, David Byrne “Same as it ever was”
Hayward Great post the memory black hole of Republicans is super massive and the event horizon is growing bigger everyday.
Let us not forget that one member of the Bush family Neil cost the US taxpayer at least $1.3 billion when his S&L Silverado went bust due to fraud & stupidity.
THX1138:
We should fear the growth of the singularity. Just like in the new Star Trek movie we are edging towards the creation of a black hole and the planet caving in on itself due to the density of the right when it comes to deliberately ignoring the memory of things past. I’m not sure what can be done to reverse this. How can you explain the dangers to them when some of them don’t believe in science?
THX 1138,
It was not fraud and stupidity.
It was fraud and cupidity,
S&L was “the largest and costliest venture in public misfeasance, malfeasance and larceny of all time.”
(That is until the Wall Street Tsunami swept over the US and the world)
The ultimate cost of the crisis is estimated to have totalled around US$150 billion, about $125 billion of which was directly subsidised by the U.S. government, ie the taxpayer, which contributed to the large budget deficits of the early 1990s. This debacle again hit the many but not the rich few, including Neil Bush. Whowas only fined US$50,000 for his part in the Silverado malfeasance.
The US Office of Thrift Supervision investigated Silverado’s failure and determined that Bush had engaged in numerous “breaches of his fiduciary duties involving multiple conflicts of interest.”
Israel,
An excellent allusion, the right wing singularity. The belief that there is an event horizon, beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer.
Because as we know it to be, the right wing singularists hope time does not exist beyond the boundary line.
In plain speaking terms the right hope that whatever they may have done before will be forgotten, will somehow disappear into a memory black hole.
An American,
This addresses the last paragraph of you post concerning the treatment of our respective First Nations
“…we get into slavery. I think you should worry about your own natives…I saw some pretty sad incidents when we were there, especially in the Ayers Rock area…the guide didn’t have anything good to say about the your government’s treatment when it came to it’s native people…you are way behind us…
Agreed things are still not what they should be for our First Nations. But on a personal level our family has been involved in Land Rights and Reconciliation. One of our sons in particular both as an activist and in his field of art as a glass artist. It took a Commonwealth Labor Government to give an Apology to the Aboriginal Nations for the treatment they have received from the colonisers. One that the previous Liberal, that is really conservative in Australian parlance, refused to do.
Admittedly things are moving slowly and your guide at Uluru was quite right to be critical. This in spite of a number of successful Native Title Claims. However the mining and pastoral interests still hold a lot of sway with governments both federal and state, no matter of what persuasion.
“our native indian population is many times what it ever was before the white man arrived, they still own large amounts of land and”
Maybe so but they were pushed off the best portions, as happened in Australia
“…they are cleaning up in their casinos as the stupid among us give them their cake that they can eat too. What they are doing is immoral but they will have to answer for their greed when the time comes for them to meet their maker.”
That is just karma. The fact that the First Nations got done over by displacement, treaties and straight out theft has come back in spades. And every one has to answer for their greed whether First Nation or Wasi’chu
Hayward,
I don’t know how it is in other states, but in New Mexico…the Pueblo indians have prime farm land along all the rivers and the Apaches have their ancestral lands which is some of the prettiest and best for cattle ranching in the state.
The Indians that have the poorest land in New Mexico are the Navajos…I think the main reason was because they were hunters, raiders (of Pueblos) wanderers that didn’t have strong ancestral lands like the Pueblo tribes.
Except for the Navajo…the rest are doing great. Nice homes and cars with their children going on for graduate degrees.
